In 2007, Reverends Guy and Dr. Sherry Molock, Dr. Deborah H. Jones, Carl Taylor, Ministers-In-Training Samoris and Paula Hall (now Reverends) and lay, Pamela Taylor, all members of a Fort Washington, Maryland-based Baptist Church, decided to form a bible study group outside of the church to study God’s word in more depth.  As a result of these bible study sessions, Guy and Sherry responded to God’s call for them to do a new thing by planting a church.  After much discussion, meditation reflection and prayer, the five other core members agreed, and preparations for a new church plant began in earnest. On April 19, 2008, a Beloved Community Church seed planting prayer breakfast was held at the Lexington Hotel in Oxon Hill, Maryland.  On May 25, 2008, the Beloved Community Church (BCC), a Baptist affiliated church with the District of Columbia Baptist Convention, had its first church service at the home of Pastors Guy and Sherry Molock in Fort Washington.  On October 18, 2008, BCC held a consecration and installation service, where the pastors, assistant pastors, ministers-in-training, officers and church members were officially consecrated and installed into the BCC church body.  Unique and progressive in identity and character, BCC opened its doors having a co-equal, husband and wife pastorate, a non-hierarchal leadership team modeled after the Holy Trinity, a fully inclusive, open and affirming church body where all are welcome without judgement, including the LGBTQ community, and a church strongly committed to social justice and unconditional love.  Having ‘unconditional love’ as its core tenet, BCC chose as its foundational scripture,1 John 4:7-11 (NIV).

Because church membership increased at a rapid pace, BCC was forced to leave the Molock’s home after only three months and relocated to Fort Washington’s Rose Valley Elementary School where they worshipped for three years before relocating in 2011 to their present location in Accokeek, Maryland. Although effective in ministry and remaining true to its call, the leadership believed BCC could be even more effective by affiliating with the United Church of Christ, a like-minded protestant denomination, who believes and lives into its mantra that “God Is Still Speaking.” On October 25, 2014, Pastors Guy and Sherry Molock and BCC were officially accepted into the Potomac Association, Central Atlantic Conference of the Unite Church of Christ, and were installed in March 2015.

Throughout the years, BCC’s mission of transforming hearts, restoring spirits and empowering minds has remained constant, and it is our continued desire to develop a community of believers committed to glorifying God, unconditionally representing the love of Christ, and serving others in community, particularly the marginalized, through the use of their gifts, talents and compassion.
